NHRCK hosted 2017 Human Rights Management Forum

o National Human Rights Commission of Korea hosted the 2017 Human Rights Management Forum at the National Assembly Memorial Hall in a bid to help public institutions and enterprises to pursue competitiveness on global stage and sustainable development through human rights friendly management.

 

 

o The 2017 Human Rights Management Forum was held under the theme of ‘Establishment of a Business and Human Rights NAP for Human Rights Management and OECD NACP.’ Representatives from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Ministry of Justice of Korea as well as officials from the OECD, US and German government participated in the forum to discuss international standards for human rights management and cases of multinational enterprises regarding human rights management.

 

o At the first session of the forum, Chair Roel Nieuwenkamp of the OECD Working Party on Responsible Business Conduct made presentation regarding OECD’s grievance mechanism and Secretary General Im Hong Jae of the UN Global Compact Network Korea and other panelists presented international standards, recent trends and process of establishment of business and human rights NAP in other countries.

 

o At the second session, representatives from the governments, business, public institutions and civil society organization participated to discuss establishment of business and human rights NAP and improvement of NCP.

 

o NHRCK hopes that the forum serves as an opportunity for governments, public institutions and businesses to understand international trends regarding business and human rights. We also hope that the state improves related system to prevent human rights infringements and provide remedy and companies practice human rights management.
