Delegations from the CDPF visited the NHRCK
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea(Chairperson Hyun Byungchul) met with the delegations of the China Disabled Person's Federation to enhance mutual cooperation including exchange of information on education on human rights of persons with disabilities and discrimination rectification.
The NHRCK explained its functions for promotion and protection of human rights of older persons and its role as a monitoring body of the CRPD. It has introduced cases of rectification and policy recommendation regarding disability discrimination and exchanged opinion on policies for persons with disabilities and implementation of the CRPD in China.
The China Disabled Person's Federation is a national agency under the Chinese government, at which 150000 people are working in areas of employment, education, policy and international cooperation for persons with disabilities. In 2008, it directed management of the Beijing Paralympics, and it deals with national statistics regarding disabilities.
The CDPF came to Korea in order to participate the 21th Conference of Disabilities Organization in Korea and China, and the CDPF plans to visit the National Rehabilitation Center and Korea Disabled People's Development Institute.
The NHRCK would like to strengthen international cooperation by establishing cooperative relation with national institutions in charge of human rights of persons with disabilities in other nations, thereby contributing to promotion and protection of human rights of persons with disabilities in Korea.
Last year, in June, the NHRCK carried out training program on functions and roles of the NHRCK and monitoring of implementation of the Anti-disability discrimination act.
