NHRCK hosted a forum on the right to access information on mobile for persons with visual or hearing disabilities

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea hosted a forum on the right to access to information on mobile for persons with visual or hearing disabilities on 1 September 2015.  

 

The NHRCK, in cooperation with the Korea Blind Union and Office of Rep. Min ByeongJu, hosted the forum, where the right to access information of persons with disabilities was discussed in detail, following the Forum on guaranteeing the right of persons with disabilities to access to information on mobile and broadcasting, which was held on the 7th anniversary of implementation of the Anti Disability Discrimination Act in April.

 

At Session 1, under the theme of measures to amend legislations to guarantee the right of persons with disabilities to access information on mobile, problems and improvement measures of the existing legislations including the Anti Disability Discrimination Act was discussed.

 

 

At Session 2, under the theme of right of persons with disabilities to access broadcasting, problems which incurred due to changes of broadcasting environment including universal use of 'touch-based system' and emergence of set top box were discussed. In detail, main contents, limits and improvement directions of the Announcement on Guarantee of Right of Persons with Disabilities to Access Broadcasting were discussed.

 

In addition to panel discussion, a mini book concert which was prepared by college students with visual disabilities was carried out to communicate with participants of the Forum.

 

The NHRCK hopes that the Forum served as an opportunity to build social consensus on realizing digitized world where every one can see, hear and listen on mobile and to amend and improve relevant legislations and institutions in line with the changing environment of the 21 century of information and communication technology.
