Opening of Daejeon Regional Human Rights Office
- Expected to carry out counselling, complaints investigation, human rights education, and cooperation with other institutions
o The National Human Rights Commission of Korea(Chairperson Hyun Byung-chul) opened Daejeon regional human rights office on 15 October, 2014, which will play a central role in protection and promotion of human rights in Daejeon and Chungcheong area.
o Daejeon regional office will carry out the following duties for citizens of Daejeon Metropolitan Area, Sejong Metropolitan Autonomous City, and South/North Chungcheon Area: human rights counselling and receipt of complaints regarding human rights infringements/discrimination; investigation/remedy on regional self-governing agencies, detention facilities, and mental health facilities; education and exchange/cooperation with civil groups and agencies related to human rights.
o The NHRCK expects that establishment of regional human rights office in Daegeon will help local residents to better access to remedy for human rights violation and urgent human rights issues.
