NHRCK Invites Human Rights Officers from Seven Asia-Pacific Countries for Partnership Program
From June 19 to 23, the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (Chairman Song Doo-hwan, hereinafter referred to as "the NHRCK") invited officials from national human rights institutions from seven countries, including Nepal, New Zealand, Mongolia, Jordan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand, which are members of the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF), to participate in a partnership program.
The participants discussed key human rights issues such as △international human rights mechanisms and the role of national human rights institutions △the emerging human rights agenda and the role of national human rights institutions, and △sharing experiences in the work of national human rights institutions, and △methods of investigating human rights violations.
Participants also learned about the pain of war and the meaning of peace through field trips to the DMZ and peace education programs, and discussed the importance of peace based on deep mutual understanding.
Since 2006, the NHRCK has been hosting the partnership program for human rights officers from Asia-Pacific national human rights institutions, training 88 officers from 30 countries so far.
Through this partnership program, the NHRCK contributes to the promotion and protection of human rights in the Asia-Pacific region by enhancing the capacities of the human rights officers in the region.
