NHRC-Dispatched Teams will Carry out Local Human Rights Counseling Activities and Build Relations with Local Civic Groups

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will dispatch a team to Daegu City, Cheongju City, and Chun-cheon City to set up and operate human rights counseling centers for concrete support and publicization of human rights from 6 - 21 May 2004. The project aims to raise the level of human rights consciousness in local communities, publicize the work and role of the Commission in different parts of Korea, and build cooperative relations with human rights and civic groups in each region. This series of visits differs from the 2003 regional missions to Pusan, Kwangju, Jeonju and Daejeon cities in that this time, NHRC investigators will team up with local lawyers to offer counseling on human rights violations and cases of discrimination as well as outline the kinds of remedies possible to the local citizens.
