NHRCK Delegation to Attend 12th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) will send a delegation on behalf of the Commission to participate in the 12th Annual Meeting of the Asia Pacific Forum (APF) in Sydney, Australia from September 24-28, 2007. The Commission’s delegation will include Chairperson Ahn Kyong-Whan and Secretary-General Kim Chil-Joon. Chairperson Ahn will also serve as chairperson of the APF for the Annual Meeting.
This annual meeting will concentrate on reinforcing the role of National Human Rights Institutions (NIs) in the Asia-Pacific region, reviewing and encouraging collaborative efforts and procedures within the APF and NIs.The meeting will also provide opportunity for representatives of NIs to discuss human rights protection in the Asia-Pacific Region and methods to increase effectiveness of NIs with their respective nations and the Asia Pacific Region. 
The Advisory Council of Jurists (ACJ) will hold separate meetings during this Annual Meeting, with former Secretary-General of the NHRCK Kwak Nohyun presiding as Jurist of the ACJ.
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea was established in 2001 to promote human rights education and defend those who have experienced discrimination, or have had a right violated, in Korea. The Commission offers counseling, full investigation and protection for residents, along with educational initiatives for organizations.
