Asiana Airlines accepted the Commission's recommendation and determined that it would allow community college or two-year college graduates to apply for positions as flight attendants on international routes.
While four-year-course university graduates could apply for both international and domestic flights, those who had only community college or two-year college experience could only apply for domestic flights. The Commission, on October 9, 2007, recommended that Asiana remove the academic background aspect of their discriminatory recruiting system.
Since Asiana Airlines expressed its plan to accept the Commission's recommendation through their review on general recruiting system, two-year college graduates have been able to apply for international flights from October 13, 2008.
The Commission hails Asiana Airlines' acceptance of its recommendation and changing of its recruiting system for international flights. Hopefully, this decision will spur momentum to redress discrimination based on academic background in Korean society.
