‘North Korean Human Rights Special Committee' was set up

The Commission established a 'North Korean Human Rights Special Committee' to strengthen capabilities in dealing with North Korean human rights. The establishment of the Special Committee was discussed in the 7th and 18th Plenary Committee Meetings held on April 14 and September 8, 2008, respectively. Through these processes, the 19th Plenary Committee Meeting resolved the establishment of the Committee on September 22 and the Committee members were appointed in the 23rd Meeting on November 10.
 
The Committee will investigate issues related to human rights in North Korea and report them to the Plenary Committee Meeting. The Committee consists of YOO Nam-Young Standing Commissioner (as a Chairperson of the Committee), KIM Tae-Hoon, YOON Ki-Won, and KIM Yang-Won Non-Standing Commissioners.
In the 26th Plenary Committee Meeting held in December 2005, the Special Committee, with 5 Commissioners (Chairperson; CHOI Young-Ae), was set up, effective from January to November, 2006.
