In the international conference on ‘Human Rights of Migrants and Multicultural Society,’ the Chairperson AHN Kyong-Whan delivered welcoming remarks on November 10, 2008. He stated that, "This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Korea and the Constitution as well as the 60th birth of Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In order to celebrate this meaningful year and the wide-spread spirit of universal human rights, the Commission has carried out a series of special events for 180 days since June. I believe this conference, with a special focus on the rights of migrants in a multicultural society, will become one of the highlights." He also stated, “This conference aims to provide an opportunity for sharing best practices in promoting and protecting human rights of labor migrants, and marriage migrants and their family members and to draw guidelines that NHRIs will bring home to implement in their own countries.”
