April 2- The NHRCK held a public hearing on its mid-term report concerning the protection and promotion of persons with mental disabilities on April 3, 2009. This public hearing was planned to present the NHRCK report on the persons with mental disabilities to relevant actors including the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association, Korean Association of Mental Hospital, Korea Association of Community Mental Rehabilitation Centers, Korea Association of Persons with Mental Disabilities, and local Mental Health Centers. It also sought best policies for the promotion of human rights of persons with disabilities. The results of the public hearing will be reflected in the final NHRCK report to be completed by June.
In addition, in commemoration of the “Mental Health Day” of April 4, the NHRCK hosted, for a second time, an art fair in Suwon, Yeojoo, Yangjoo, Yongin, Boocheon, Goonpo, Yeoncheon, and Euijeongbu. For three months from April 3, the art work produced by persons with mental disabilities, their families, and citizens will be exhibited. At the same time, the auction proceeds will be used as a fund for cultural and artistic activities of persons with mental disabilities.
