April 10, 14~16- Standing Commissioner Choi Kyong-Suk attended forums held in Seoul, Gwangju, Busan, and Daegu in commemoration of the 1st anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). Focusing on the issues of employment, education, and public facilities, participants discussed impact of the DDA.
April 22- Eight government and civil society leaders from developing countries in Southeast Asia visited the NHRCK as part of the study tour program, entitled “Good Governance Through Government-Civil Society Partnership”,sponsored by the Asia Foundation. After paying a courtesy call on Chairperson Ahn, the delegations had a session on the NHRCK’s mandates and functions with Director General Lee Seong-Hoon of the Policy and Education Bureau. The purpose of the visit was to study the role of civil society played in the establishment of the NHRCK and its current cooperation with human rights NGOs.
April 22- Standing Commissioner Yoo Nam-Young attended the 5th Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, which considered agenda related to the North Korean Human Rights Act and North Korea’s detention of an employee of Hyundai Asan Corporation who had worked in Gaesung Industrial Complex.
