MOE to Include Special Schools for the Persons with Disability in the Public Welfare Facilities

April 20 – The Ministry of Environment (MOE) has decided to allow special schools for the persons with disabilities to be located in the water quality protection areas of the Han River, along with other public facilities.

The MOE has limited the facilities that cause contamination in the Han River, but made an exception for public welfare facilities such as public schools. A compliant was followed by a schoolmaster in April 2008, as the exception did not include special schools for disabilities.

The NHRCK issued a recommendation calling on MOE to clearly include special schools in the exception list, claiming that it is discrimination against persons with disabilities and a violation of Article 4, paragraph 1 and Article 26, paragraph 1 of the Disability Discrimination Act.
