Age Limit for Employment Is Discrimination

November 19- The NHRCK recommended that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) revise its regulations to remove the current age limit for candidates of its employment examination, accusing it of being discriminatory and a violation of the right to equality. Under the current NIS regulations, those who apply for its employment examination should be aged between 20 to 34 for level 5 and 6, between 20 to 31 for level 7 and 8, and between 20 to 29 for level 9 and less.

A series of complaints were filed to the NHRCK from March to July, saying NIS’s age limit for the candidates of employment examination is discriminative.

Regarding this, the NIS claimed, “It is necessary to ensure NIS’s employees are a certain age group, given the special duty, intensive physical training and technical intelligence education.” NIS added, “Being in the front line of national security, the NIS’s personal management should be based on a strict hierarchy, which should be based on the seniority.”

The NHRCK concluded the NIS’ qualification requirement for its employees should be based on physical and professional eligibility, not the age itself. “Physical strength or learning ability differs depending on individuals, which cannot be uniformly measured by age.” “It is also unreasonable to say a strict hierarchy should be established according to age.”

The NHRCK added, “The Official Appointment Regulations removed provisions on age limit this year.” “The Central Intelligence Agency of the U.S. requires its employees to be under certain age group only for four occupations out of 96. Even, the age limit for those four occupations could be flexible depending on the candidates.”
