The National Human Rights Commission of Korea hosted a five-day partnership program(June 17-21 2024) on climate change and human rights for staff from human rights institutions in seven countries (Bangladesh, Fiji, Indonesia, Iraq, Malaysia, Maldives, and the Philippines).

The program provided an overview of the climate crisis and human rights, and covered topics ranging from climate litigation and business and human rights in the context of climate change to just transition. During the workshops, participants discussed the efforts made by individual human rights organizations. They also went on a field trip to the Road of Human Rights of Mt. Namsan to experience firsthand Korean history of human rights movements.

At the closing ceremony, participants commented that the program helped broaden their knowledge of the climate crisis and human rights, as well as the Korean human rights movement. The exchange of knowledge through this partnership program will serve as a stepping-stone for further communication and cooperation among human rights organizations in the Asia-Pacific region.
