Commissioner of the NHRCK Attended Annual Meeting of Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions
The Chair of the National Human Rights Commission, Mr. Ahn Chang-ho elected as a member of the APF Governance Committee and presented on the work of the NHRCK on environment and climate change at the APF Annual Meeting.
On September 24 and 25, Ahn Chang-ho, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK), attended the 29th Annual Meeting of the Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) in Bangkok, Thailand.
The APF is an alliance of 26 national human rights Institution in the Asia-Pacific region that holds an annual meeting every year to strengthen exchanges and cooperation among national human rights organizations in the region and to promote the protection and promotion of human rights in each country.
At this meeting, the Chairperson, Mr. Ahn Chang-ho, was elected as a member of the APF Governance Committee. Only A-accredit national human rights organizations are eligible to run for election to the Governance Committee, which is elected by direct and secret ballot of member organizations at the APF Annual Meeting. In this election, Jordan (Chair), Indonesia (Vice-Chair), the Republic of Korea, Pakistan, and the Philippines were elected to the Governance Committee.
At the meeting, Chairperson Ahn introduced the work of the NHRCK on the theme of environment and climate change, and called for cooperation among national human rights organizations in the Asia-Pacific region to address the issue at the regional level.
