Welcoming Remarks of International Forum on CEDAW

On November 27, the Chairperson AHN Kyong-Whan delivered welcoming remarks at the international forum on CEDAW. He stated that, “The Commission strives to eliminate discrimination against women and promote their rights through investigation of filed petitions and policy recommendations to the government. Close cooperation between the Commission and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women is necessary for the promotion of women’s rights.” During the forum, five members of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women - Heisoo Shin (Republic of Korea), Dr. Hanna Beate Schöpp-Schilling(Germany), Dorcas Coker-Appiah(Ghana), Pramila Patten(Mauritious), and Regina Tavares da Silva(Portugal) - discussed CEDAW and State, Committee’s Review and Recommendations to the Republic of Korea, Optional Protocol to the Convention and Individual Complaints, Optional Protocol to the Convention and Official Investigation, and CEDAW and NGO Monitoring.
