The National Human Rights Commission of Korea(NHRCK) invited staff members from the national human rights institutions of Malaysia, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Samoa, India, Thailand and the Maldives under the partnership program for human rights officers, which ran from November 7 to 11 of 2022.

Chairperson Doo-hwan Song of the NHRCK discussed a wide range of topics with the program participants including: 1) operation of NHRIs; 2) international human rights mechanisms and roles of NHRIs; 3) implementation of international human rights treaties; and 4) best practices in addressing discrimination and other human rights issues.

The program also included a visit to the office of the Korea Democracy Foundation to learn about the history of pro-democracy movements of Korea and a visit to the Constitutional Court to discuss some of the decisions rendered by the Court in support of the basic human rights.

A total of 80 human rights officers from 30 countries have benefited from the partnership program since it began in 2006.

The Commission hopes that the partnership program helps strengthen the protection of human rights at the global level by facilitating exchanges among NHRIs in the Asia-Pacific region about their experiences and challenges.
