The 2nd ASEM Conference on Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons was concluded

o The 2nd ASEM Conference on Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons, hosted by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea to discuss human rights of older persons with ASEM members, NHRIs, NGOs, and UN institutions was concluded on 21 September.

 

o In line with the Conference, the GANHRI Special Session on Human Rights of Older Persons and the Round Table for Operation of the ASEM Global Ageing Center were hosted where 300 people from 40 countries participated.

 

o During the Conference, experts and representatives from international institutions, NHRIs, international NGOs, and ASEM members participated to discuss international trend and major activities with regards to human rights of older persons. In addition, implementation status and exemplary cases of the MIPAA, SDGs and human rights of older persons, and measures to enhance international cooperation were discussed.

 

o In particular, a Chair’s Summary which encourages the ASEM Global Ageing Center, scheduled to be open in 2018 by NHRCK to take a role as a hub for researches and exchange for human rights of older persons and contribute to promotion and protection of human rights of older persons in ASEM member countries.

 

o NHRCK, as a chair of the GANHRI Working Group on Ageing will continue to make efforts to lead international cooperation for promotion of human rights of older persons.
