NHRCK, EU Delegation to Republic of Korea and APF to Co-host Conference on Hate Speech in September 2020
The 2020 Conference on Combating Hate Speech will take place in The Westin Chosun Seoul, Republic of Korea, on 17 September 2020 on the topic of strategies and action plan to address hate and discrimination. The conference will be co-hosted by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea(NHRCK), Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea and Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions(APF).
The conference will bring together representatives from government institutions, NGOs and related organizations dedicated to the issues of hate and discrimination as well as human rights experts to identify and share best policies and practices regarding the implementation of international regulations, enactment of equality law and information and communications technologies.
The conference will give an impetus to the efforts to legislate the long awaited ‘equality law.’ which is regarded as an effective mechanism to address hate speech in the Republic of Korea. The conference will also provide an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation to tackle hate speech.
