Chairperson Lee met with EU ambassadors

Chairperson Sung-Ho Lee of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea participated to the working luncheon with 22 EU ambassadors at Fourseasons Hotel Seoul, upon invitation from the EU Delegation to Republic of Korea on April 28, 2016.

 

Chairperson Lee met with 22 ambassadors from European countries including Gerhard Sabathil, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea and shared opinion on major human rights issues and measures for cooperation.

 

Chairperson Lee also introduced role, function and major projects of the Commission and explained the importance of National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights and human rights management of corporations.

 

He, as a chair of the Working Group on Ageing of the GANHRI, Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, shared direction and plan for the working group.

 

He also added that for improvement of human rights of North Koreans cooperation of the international community is needed more than even before amidst tension on the Korean peninsular due to North Korea’s nuclear test and rocket launch.

 

Chairperson Lee also explained about what efforts did the Commission make for promotion and protection of human rights and emphasized importance of international cooperation.

 

The Commission hopes that the working luncheon with EU ambassadors serves as an opportunity to further facilitate cooperation and discussion between Korea and EU for promotion and protection of human rights.
