Itinerant Human Rights Counseling Service for Children·Juvenile
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea conducted itinerant human rights counseling service for children and juvenile in a bid to listen to their voices on human rights infringements and discriminations and to seek measures to better protect and promote their human rights.
During the counseling, the NHRCK promoted the human rights monitoring group on human rights of child and juvenile in Seoul and Gyeonggi area, which is composed of people aged below 18.
The NHRCK also introduced the role and activities of the monitoring group which are based on the UN Convention on the Rights of Child and conducted research on the status quo of human rights of students in school including the right to participation and school regulations.
The NHRCK also listened to the voice of students regarding human rights issues in school including student’s right to freedom of appearance, guarantee of privacy and prevention of school violence in a bid to identify tasks that should be address to enhance their human rights situation.
Meanwhile, the NHRCK, in a bid to implement recommendations from the UN CRC and 2nd UPR, created a team exclusively working on human rights issue of child in August, 2014 and a subcommittee on the rights of child to deliberate and decide on human rights infringements and discriminations against children in May 2016.
