MoU with Dongcheon Foundation for Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea signed an MoU with the Dongcheon Foundation in a bid to establish permanent advisory and cooperation system in dealing with discrimination cases and tasks related to disabilities.

 

The NHRCK would like to establish a system for cooperation with the Dongcheon Foundation in order to contribute to promotion and protection of human rights of persons with disabilities by devising measures to improve related legislation, policy, institution and practice by securing expertise and immediate advisory system to deal with disability discrimination cases.

 

Areas for cooperation between the NHRCK and Dongcheon Foundation will cover provision of advice and material regarding legislation, policy, institution and practices that need improvement to promote human rights of persons with disabilities and prevent discrimination, provision of advice and material for implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, support for lawsuit for remedy of right of persons with disabilities, and projects needed for promotion and protection of human rights of older persons.

 

Dongcheon is an incorporated foundation established by BKL LL.C in June, 2009 to be used for public purpose, and currently, 155 lawyers are cooperating with international and domestic civil society group and organizations in order to protect human rights of refugees, migrants, persons with disabilities, North Korean defectors, women, and children.

 

The NHRCK hopes the MoU with Dongcheon serves as an opportunity to promote human rights of persons with disabilities in Korea.
