The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) Implements Human Rights Education on Workers of Facilities for Homeless People. It is required to take minimum of 4 hours of the human rights course each year, since it became a compulsory education course.

「Act on Support of Welfare and Self-supporting of Homeless」(enforced in '12.6.8.) makes it mandatory for representative and workers of facilities for homeless people (hereafter, homeless facilities) to take human rights education course. Since this is due to increasing awareness in the importance of the role of homeless facilities’ staff in protecting human rights of homeless people, all the workers from homeless facilities must take at least 4 hours of human rights education course annually.

For this reason, NHRCK operated mandatory human rights education course on all workers from homeless facilities. △2012. 6. 26. the NHRCK operated human rights education for workers of homeless facilities, and △2012. 7. 5. ~ 7. 6. for superintendent of homeless facilities.

In order to provide systematic human rights education for workers of homeless facilities, the NHRCK developed elementary textbook which focuses on mechanisms to protect human rights, and NHRCK will operate human rights education at local human rights offices so as to promote convenience for those staff who work at the homeless facilities at rural areas.

Continue with this effort, NHRCK will make this program more systematic and professional by fostering instructors; establishing human rights education course for public officers; and developing and implementing online contents.
