The NHRC launched an investigation of four complaints filed by people who claimed   their human rights had been violated while they were being held as suspects in the Seoul District Prosecutor’s Office

The National Human Rights Commission launched an investigation by virtue of its authority of the incident in which one suspect was killed in the Seoul District Prosecutor’s Office.

The NHRC has been investigating the suspects involved since 4 November after determining to investigate by unanimous consent on 1 November.

The four suspects the Commission has been investigating are Kwon, Jeong, Park, and Jang.

Kwon and Jeong filed complaints to the NHRC alleging that they had been treated brutally during the prosecutor’s interrogation.

Investigators of the NHRC, together with a practitioner in Seoul by the name of Kim, physically examined the four suspects in order to verify whether they had been tortured or not.

In addition, the NHRC will request documents and materials from respondents - the Supreme Public Prosecutors’ Office, the Seoul District Prosecutors’ Office, Seo-Cho Police Station, Bang-Bae Police Station, and the hospital involved - and intend to investigate these respondents in the near future.
