NHRCK hosts 2017 Human Rights Education Forum

oNational Human Rights Commission of Korea will host the 2nd Human Rights Education Forum jointly with Ewha Womans University and Ewha Institute for Biomedical Law and Ethics. The forum will be held under the theme of ‘Bioethics and Human Rights’ where the meaning of bioethics and the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights will mainly be discussed.

 

o During the forum, diverse issues will be dealt with including life-reproduction, UNESCO Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights, right to health of women, hospice and life-prolonging treatment and death with dignity. Right to life is the starting point and fundamental element for every human right. The forum is especially meaningful that there is a growing voice calling for inclusion of right to life in making amendment to the Constitution. Experts from academia, human rights instructor and representatives from human rights organizations will participate.

 

o Secretary General Cho Youngsun of NHRCK said that Korea archived remarkable development for the last half century but during the process the value and dignity of life were brushed aside and economic development and progress of science and technology has become a goal of a life, not a mean. He added that the Korean society is faced with diverse ethical, social, and human rights-related issues including industrial accident, life reproduction, genetic modification, and right to health of women at home and work place.

 

o NHRCK will continue to deal with right to life through holding public discussion and reviewing policies.
