Chairperson Hyun Byung-Chul met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
On May 11 Navanethem Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Sang-hyun Song, the President of International Criminal Court visited the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) to meet with Chairperson Byung-Chul Hyun and discuss human rights issues and the role of the national human rights institutions.
Mr. Hyun expressed his gratitude to Ms. Pillay for having highly assessed the activities of the NHRCK while supporting its independence. Ms. Pillay expressed her expectations on the NHRCK to show more interest and commitment toward enhancing economic, social and cultural rights and international development cooperation. Mr. Song emphasized concerted efforts between the International Criminal Court and national human rights institutions for the promotion of human rights at the international level. Ms. Pillay and Mr. Song visited Korea from 10 to 12 May to attend the 10th International Association of Women Judges.
