o Chairperson Lee Sung-Ho of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea met with Representative Naveed Syed Hussain of the UN HCR Korea on 16 June and exchanged their opinion regarding situation of refuges in Korea, pressing issues and areas for cooperation.
o During the meeting, they agreed that recommendations of NHRCK contribute to improvement of policies and people’s perception. For example, NHRCK presented recommendations regarding the 3rd NAP , refugee application system, operation of waiting rooms, and registration of refugees with disabilities in the system.
o They also discussed measures for cooperation to guarantee the right of refugee applicants and prevent human rights infringements against them pursuant to the Refugee Act and the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, amidst increasing number of refugee applicants in Korea.
o Chairperson Lee also stated that NHRCK will continue to monitor policies of the government and cooperate with the government to guarantee human rights.
