NHRCK Human Rights Protector for Military meets
Minister of National Defense
Human Rights Protector for Military(hereinafter the ‘Protector’) Chanun Park at the National Human Rights Commission of Korea(hereinafter the ‘NHRCK’ or the ‘Commission’) met with the Ministry of National Defense Jongsub Lee on August 11.
At the meeting held at the Ministry of National Defense, Protector Park requested active promotion on the human rights protection system for military personnel. He also called on the Ministry to provide effective measures for servicemembers to file in complaints to the Commission should the need arise.
Regarding the recent sexual violence case in a military base, Protector Park emphasized the importance of providing timely and adequate protection measures for the victims and called on the Ministry of National Defense to take extra care in preventing secondary impact on the victims and the informants.
* Human Rights Protector for Military was established on July 1 to investigate and provide remedies on human rights violence and discrimination in military and to put forward recommendations on the human rights-related policies for the betterment of military personnel.
