The NHRC Inspects the Scene at Balsan Station where a Man had Fallen from a Chair Lift for the Disabled (08-26-2002)
The NHRC (President Kim Chang-Kuk)will conduct an investigation at Balsan Station on 28 August at11 AM, where a disabled man, Mr. Yoon, had fallen from a chair lift for the disabled.
The Commission will conduct a comprehensive investigation on the station"s chair lift for the disabled, including not only its structure, but also how it has been utilized and managed. For this investigation, the accident as it happened last 19 May will be reenacted, and the Commission will collect statements by [people who had been] witnesses, to determine whether there were any irregularities during the aftermath of the accident.
Personnel from the Public Transport Department of the Seoul City Hall and Seoul Metropolitan Subway Corporation have confirmed that they will join the NHRC for this investigation, and personnel from the Southern District Public Prosecutors Office and Gangseo Police Station are also scheduled to join the investigation. From the public sector, Gang Byeong-Geun, a professor from Konkuk University Department of Architectural Engineering, and Mr. Heo Yun-Sup, from the Korea Elevator Safety Institute, will join the inspection as inspectors.
