NHRCK Chair and Celebrity EntertainerHelp the Challenged as One-Day Personal Assistants

In celebration of the enforcement of the Anti-Discrimination Against and Remedies for Persons with Disabilities Act (Disability Discrimination Act; DDA) on April 11, 2008, Chair Ahn Kyong-hwan of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) volunteered as a personal assistant for persons with disabilities at the Seondong Rehabilitation Center on March 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The center is located in Majang-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul.
Chair Ahn was not alone: high profile entertainer and NHRCK PR ambassador, Ms. Kim Mi-hwa, was also there to provide personal assistance. They helped persons with disabilities go to work, move from place to place, eat, and do other everyday activities.
They also had a bull session with persons with disabilities who use personal assistance service (PAS), personal assistants, and parents of persons with disabilities to hear about the common challenges that persons with disabilities face in their everyday lives, and to discuss ways to improve the PAS system.
