The NHRCK Daegu Regional Office and Benest, a social welfare foundation, held a discussion forum on “Anti-Discrimination Against and Remedies for Persons with Disabilities Act (Disability Discrimination Act; DDA) and Human Rights of the Mentally Disabled” on August 22, 2008. Through the discussion forum, the NHRCK attempted to examine the possibility of reforming the current human rights situation of the mentally disabled with a focus on the Disability Discrimination Act, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Mental Health Act, and the Protection of Personal Liberty Act. The NHRCK also discussed challenges inherent in the mental health policy of the central and local government.
