2008.11.10-12
The NHRCK will hold an International Conference on Human Rights and Multicultural Society – ‘Dignity and Justice for All’ on the 60th Anniversary of the UDHR from November 10 to 12, 2008.
New human rights issues are arising due to an increase of migrant workers, increased intermarriage among immigrants and Koreans, and a rise in the number of multicultural families. This international conference aims to critically review human rights issues and seeks to define the role of the NHRCK in a multicultural society. The conference will focus on protecting the rights of migrants in a globalizing and multicultural society with keynote speakers including Hon Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, (Minister in the Prime Minister Office, Malysia), Dr. Bertrand G. Ramcharan (Professor of International Law, former Acting UN High Commissioner for Human Rights), William Gois (Migrants Forum in Asia, Manila), etc. The NHRCK will introduce the ‘Seoul Guidelines on Cooperation among NHRIs for the Promotion and Protection of Migrants’ Rights’ on the final day of the conference, in response to the focus on relevant developments in the promotion and protection of international human rights.
