On 30 December 2008, the chairperson of the Commission, Kyong-Whan Ahn paid a visit to the Ansan Migrants’ Center and the Shelter for the Migrants in preparation of one of the strategic goals for the year 2009; the promotion of human rights in a multicultural society. The purpose of the visit was to listen to the difficulties of migrant workers, migrant women in international marriages, and children of multicultural families and to grasp the implications for policy. This visit also examined the living conditions of migrants in the Ansan city, the biggest home to migrants, and reviewed relevant policies, including legislation of human rights ordinances, and support from private organizations.
