January 16 – The NHRCK awarded winners of the 6th Best Human Rights Education Program Contest at a ceremony held at its headquarters on Friday.
Among selected were a program titled <Beautiful and Infinite Challenge by Love Sharers>, a course on disability for parents of non-disabled students and <Understanding North Korean Human Rights through Exchange with Newly-settled North Korean Youth>, a program facilitating exchange and collaboration of Hankyoreh High School students and North Korean teen defectors.
Apart from the best education programs, six prizes were given to the Best Human Rights User Created Contents (UCC). Three students from Bupyeong Girls' High School received the First Prize with <Human Rights Twist> featuring lyrics about discrimination based on gender, education, and against migrant workers.
The contest, established in order to raise people’s awareness on human rights education, has been held annually since 2003. This year, 12 winners were selected from 41 entries and winning programs will be published in a book and distributed to schools and local libraries.
