l February 18~21 – Visits to Stanford and Santa Clara Law School
Chairperson Ahn, Kyong-Whan visited Stanford Law School at the invitation of the Annual Trina Grillo Public Interest and Social Justice Law Retreat and delivered a speech on global social justice lawyering. He also gave a lecture on human rights at his alma mater, Santa Clara Law School and discussed future cooperation between the two institutions including a 2009 human rights training for American law students.
l February 27 – Talk with director of APF
Mr. Kieren Fitzpatrick, director of the Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) visited our Commission to discuss common concerns including the implementation of the Seoul Process, Business and Human Rights, and so on. Chairperson Ahn had a talk with him on strengthening ties and ensuring mutual cooperation between the NHRCK and APF secretariat.
l February 27 - Visit to impoverished village
Chairperson Ahn visited an impoverished village located in the center of Seoul to meet and talk with those who live below the poverty line. The Jandi village, surrounded by high-rise buildings and apartments, is an unauthorized home to 33 families. The visit was arranged to listen to their stories and understand the issue of the right to adequate housing on the spot.
Chairperson Ahn has visited the vulnerable sectors around the country on a regular basis, and this was his 22nd visit since he took office in October 2006.
