The purpose of the law in force for irregular workers is controlling the misuse of irregular workers, as well as encouraging companies to hire them as full-time employees after two years.
Despite the possibility that companies might fire irregular workers after two years, there has been a positive change for improvement because of the legal system and the government’s will.
The NHRCK said “The extension of employment terms for irregular workers is contradictory to the purpose of the law, and would worsen the situation for the workers. It could reduce the necessity for companies to hire full-time workers, instead of irregular workers who receive less wage.”
After two years, dismissal of irregular employees might occur if the economic slump continues. To minimize these kinds of risks and to ensure workers’ job security, the government needs to find better measures for companies and employees, rather than simply extending the term of employment for irregular workers.
“A revision of the bill for irregular workers is a controversial issue because of its effects on workers’ employment. There should be sufficient discussion and social agreement before anything is decided,” added the NHRCK.
