June 19- An academic conference on the present situation and suggested direction of civil and political rights was held by the NHRCK and the Korean Constitutional Law Association on June 19. The conference centered on several issues involving these civil and political rights – a category of rights which has been controversial in Korea. Topics discussed at the conference included freedom of thought and conscience in the context of national security, freedom of assembly in the context of police power, and freedom of expression and regulation on the internet.
