The NHRCK Released the Roadmap for the Improvement
of North Korean Human Rights
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) released the result of its fact-finding investigation on long-term policies and human rights road map for North Korean human rights: Establishment of Institutional Platform and Action Plan on December 13, 2010.
The investigation was conducted by the Institute for Far Eastern Studies for six months from May to November 2010, based on the NHRCK’s view that the integral and systematic policies are necessary for the North Korean human rights.
The research suggests policies and action plans that the Korean government can develop by categories, which are divided into agents (multilateral party, bilateral party, and international organization) and issues (North Korean rights, North Korean defectors, prisoner of war, abductees, and separated families).
The NHRCK will take reference to the result in order to develop practical policies to improve the North Korean rights through continuous investigation and research. The Commission will also submit policy recommendations on North Korean rights for the Korean government when necessary.
