Monitoring Group on the Disability Discrimination Act Launched
The NHRCK launched the second batch of the Monitoring Group on the Disability Discrimination Act on April 1, 2011 in Daejeon. The group is consisted of 209 members, among 133 members are the disabled themselves. It will conduct activities to monitor accessibility of the disabled to cultural and sports centers, public transportations, public institutions, financial organizations, etc.
The NHRCK organized the monitoring groups since 2010 to bring the effective implementation of the Disability Discrimination Act. In 2010, it published a report, based on the activities of monitoring groups, on political rights for the disabled, and access to cultural and art activities, and public service.
The Second batch of the monitoring group focuses on the following areas:
1) Access to and participation in cultural and sports facilities
2) Access to public transportations
3) Access to financial services
4) Access to public services
