On-site Counseling for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Gangneung Region
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) provided on-site counseling services in Gangneung-city in Gangwon province for the 31st anniversary event for persons with disabilities on May 4, 2011 in collaboration with disability NGOs. This visit was organized to collect the opinions of persons with disabilities and to develop an effective program towards the promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities.
The NHRCK endeavored to ensure relevant accessibility measures, including a counseling bus service and sign language interpreters, to facilitate the full participation by persons with disabilities in the counseling services.
The complaints received during the counseling visit were directed to the investigation bureau for prompt investigation and effective remedies, and the opinions suggested will be the foundation for policy review and further research.
