Monitoring the Human Rights Status of Elderly Citizens
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) appointed 95 senior citizens as Guardians for the Protection of Human Rights of the Elderly. The Guardian will monitor the human rights status of the elderly for the five-month period from June 2011.
The NHRCK has organized the Guardians since 2009 to empower senior citizens to contribute to the promotion of their human rights and to collect suggestions for the policy development on the elderly rights.
The Guardians will conduct at least three times a month the monitoring activities on the human rights status of elderly citizens in various fields such as leisure programs for the elderly, senior employment promotion project, and support programs for elderly living alone.
