On-site Counseling for the Human Rights of Migrant Workers in Siheung-city Region
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) visited the Siheung Migrant Community Service in Siheung-city, Gyeonggi province on June 12, 2011to provide counseling services on human rights, labor and legal matters for migrant workers.
The visit was organized to understand the working condition of migrant workers and prepare a human rights policy for migrants, as its continuous concern and efforts to improve the human rights of migrant workers.
The NHRCK endeavored to provide comprehensive and effective counseling to migrant workers on human rights as well as legal and labor issues. The counseling service was provided by lawyers, labor attorneys, NHRCK investigators, and relevant officials from the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Employment and Labor, with interpretation services in five different languages.
The complaints received during the counseling visit were directed to the investigation bureau for prompt investigation and effective remedies, and the opinions suggested will be the foundation for policy review and further research.
