The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) and Korea Mental Health Fund (KMHF) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Cooperation for the Promotion of Human Rights of Persons with Mental Disabilities on May 31, 2011. The two parties agreed to strengthen cooperation to eliminate discrimination and prejudices against persons with mental disabilities.
The MOU provides that both parties shall cooperate in (i) consultation on mental disabilities in dealing with complaint cases; (ii) policy development and research for the promotion of human rights of persons with mental disabilities; (iii) education and awareness-raising to eliminate discrimination and prejudices against persons with mental disabilities; and (iv) the exchange of resources and information on the rights of persons with mental disabilities.
The NHRCK and the KMHF will cooperate to protect the human rights of persons with mental disabilities, to combat social discrimination and prejudices, and to strive to improve the human rights status for persons with mental disabilities.
