The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) jointly organized a Human Rights Policy Development Program for 16 government officials from Nigeria, Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and Papua New Guinea, supported by the Korea’s official development assistance (ODA).
The purpose of the program was to provide training and share experiences of the NHRCK to government officials who are engaging in the work of establishing a national human rights institution in their countries or developing national human rights policy. The program included lectures by human rights experts and academics on international human rights system, human rights policy, human rights education, and the Asia Pacific NHRIs Regional Conference on Business and Human Rights.
The NHRCK has organized ODA programs in establishing NHRIs and strengthening capacity for human rights policy development since 2009, inviting 20 government officials from Iraq, Laos, Cambodia, Kazakhstanand Vietnam.
The NHRCK will continue its effort of sharing Korea’s experience of democratization and the development of human rights.
