The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) devised a <Human Rights Guidelines for Migrants>  (hereinafter “Guidelines for Migrants”). It was recommended to ten relevant governmental bodies, including the Ministry of Justice, to follow the policy direction embraced in the guidelines.

The “Guidelines for Migrants” were established as our society has been gradually entering a multi-cultural community and existing policies for migrants’ human rights lack efficiency.

The guidelines include the result of on-site investigations on the circumstance of migrants’ human rights in Korea, an analysis of relevant laws, social practices, example cases of other countries under international law, and discussion with experts from various civic organizations and government branches.

The Migrants’ Guidelines include seven chapters, thirty sections and ninety main programs. The seven parts mainly focus on promoting human rights of (1) migrant workers (2) marriage migrants (3) migrant children (4) refugees and stateless people (5) overseas Koreans (6) non-registered migrants and (7) preventing racial discrimination and promoting awareness about non-Koreans
