The NHRCK held a welcoming ceremony for the 2012 On-site Monitoring Group for the Implementation of the Act on the Prohibition of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities on March 22 2012.
The Monitoring Group consists of 159 persons including 103 persons with disabilities (65%) and will be examining voting polls at the election of members for 19th National Assembly from April until July, medical service facilities, cultural and artistic places in terms of accessibility of persons with disabilities and convenience for them.
It has been 4 years since the enactment of Act on the Prohibition of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities, however, there still exists many obstacles for persons with disabilities to participate in the society. The NHRCK will make its best effort to implement and enhance public awareness of the Act by operating this monitoring program.
The NHRCK will also initiate additional “Policy Monitoring Group” comprised of experts in the related field, legal experts and human rights advocates with the aim of providing advices to the Government based on analysis of relevant regulations, policies and practices.
