NHRCK Monitors 90 Private Special Schools in the Country for the Right to Education of Students with Disabilities
Date : 2012.06.04 00:00:00 Hits : 2101

NHRCK will monitor 90 private special schools for two months from May 2012. It will examine facilities for students with disabilities, and possible discriminatory acts or human rights violation. In order to carry out the investigation, NHRCK established “Monitoring groups for the right to education of students with disabilities” and celebrated its launch on May 4, 2012.

This monitoring will be conducted based on the decision that full compliance of relevant regulations, provision of convenience for education, and enhancement of teachers’ awareness of human rights are needed for the promotion and protection of human rights of students with disabilities after conducting an ex-officio investigation on the horrible human rights violation incident against children with disabilities, “Do-ga-ni” case. The main focus of the investigation will be the provision of convenience for education, discriminatory acts against students with disabilities and teachers’ working conditions, and the level of parents’ engagement with education courses.

NHRCK will have individual and written interviews with students, teachers, and parents for future policy recommendations. It also has a plan to initiate an ex-officio investigation in case grave human rights violation cases are identified during monitoring.
