o The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) paid a visit child care facilities in Seoul and Kyunggi province to monitor them from 15 to 24 July.
o The NHRCK organized a On-site Investigation Team consisting of child care experts, investigators at the NHRCK and a Human Rights Commissioner and checked the management of the facility and the living condition of children thereat.
o The Investigation Team especially focused on the issues of protection of children in need of psychological therapy, support for children who left the facility, and dietary life and nutrition conditions of children. For this purpose, social care experts met children there and interviewed them.
o The NHRCK checked the facility with <Human Rights Evaluation Index for Monitoring Child Care Facility> which the NHRCK devised in order to ensure right to life, right to protection, and right to development which are enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
o Based on the outcome, the NHRCK plans to make a recommendation to relevant government branches if necessary after reviewing related legislations and institutions for the prevention of human rights violation and improvement of rights of the child at the facility.
