o The NHRCK(Chairperson, Hyun Byung-chul) hosted a public hearing on amendment of the National Human Rights Commission Act which is to secure transparency of selection process of human rights commissioners and diversity of NHRCK's composition, at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 22 August, 2014.
o The public hearing is hosted to devise practical implementation measures for ICC SCA recommendation to the NHRCK and to gather opinions of experts and civil society on amendment to the Commission Act
o In response to the ICC SCA recommendations, the NHRCK established a TFT and a Special Committee on Human Rights Commission Act as well as asked for legal advise to international organization such as the OHCHR and the APF.
o The NHRCK believes that amendment to the Commission Act is closely related to national status and credibility of Korea in the international community and plans to gather people's and experts' opinion and reflect them to the amendment draft.
o The NHRCK will also actively improve composition and operation of the Commission by establishing a guideline on principle and process of appointment of human rights commissioner of the NHRCK.
